European crude oil imports from FSU tripled since 1993 - IEA

According to figures from the International Energy Agency (IEA), European crude oil imports from the Former Soviet Union (FSU) 1Q2002 were 3.2 mbd up from 2.9 mbd in 2001 and 2.6 mbd in 2000.

European crude oil imports from the Former Soviet Union have increased continuously since 1991 when they were 0.6 mbd, but 1991 was an exceptional year as the imports in 1990 were 1.1 mbd.

 

Total European crude oil imports January to May 2002 were 12.34 mbd down from 12.60 mbd in 2001.  In may 2002 OECD Europe took 25% of its crude oil imports from FSU.

 

In addition Europe takes some 15% or 0.8 mbd of its products imports from the FSU.
