Suez Canal tanker traffic down 16% - Suez Canal Authority

Suez Canal traffic northbound, laden has declined by 16% in the number of tankers January to July 2002, compared to the same period in 2001.

Tankers 50-100,000 dwt have declined by 69 to 436 transits and VLCCs have declined by 42 to 22 transits January to July in 2002.  Only 35 tankers 100-200,000 dwt or five per month have so far transited the Canal northbound laden until July, but this is only slightly below the 2001 level, when only on average 5.6 tankers of this size transited the Canal.
