Tanker fleet decreased by 0.5% January-March 2002

The tanker and combined carrier fleet above 10,000 dwt as of end March 2002 has seen a net reduction of 0.5% since end 2001.

The net change in the fleet was 1.4 million dwt or 7 ships. The segment that had the largest net reduction was the VLCC fleet, which was reduced by 1.8 million dwt or 6 ships. The tanker and combined carrier fleet now stand at 302.8 million dwt or 3.543 ships. Still, close to 22% of the fleet is on order, of which the Aframax tanker fleet segment has the highest orderbook to fleet share of close to 27%.
