Seatrend Web reports that Kapetan Michalis and Kapetan Giannis, which were delivered in 9/1977 and 12/1977 from Hitachi in Japan as Esso Pacific and Esso Atlantic, have been sold for recycling.

These tankers are number three and four in the world in deadweight terms.  They measure 516,000 dwt,  407 metres (1,334 feet) long and 71 metres (233 feet) wide. Kapetan Michalis was sold to Bangladesh at $147/ldt and Kapetan Giannis  to Pakistan at $143/ldt, grossing some $9.4m each. We have recorded 30 U/VLCCs of some 9.8 million dwt sold for recycling this year, and a total of 128 tankers including 6 OBOs (15.7 mil dwt).
