INTERTANKO Chairman honoured at Connecticut Maritime Association

INTERTANKO Chairman Lars Carlsson was honoured at a presentation at the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) Annual Meeting this week for his contribution to CMA and the shipping industry over many years. His support for both was coupled with that of INTERTANKO and acknowledged by outgoing CMA President Don Frost.

Earlier Lars Carlsson had moderated and spoken at the session “Views from 35,000 feet”, which also included a presentation by the new CMA Commodore Peter Georgiopoulos. Lars Carlsson spoke of the positive changes that had taken place in the tanker industry. He emphasised the further developments that are necessary for the industry to regain the trust of the general public in knowing that industry stakeholders are taking their responsibilities seriously.

Both Carlsson and Georgiopoulos suggested that all future ship designs should incorporate greater environmental protection measures, such as a double skin around bunker tanks, and at the same time underlined the need for even greater transparency.
