CHEMICAL TANKER SINKS IN THE CHANNEL ISLES

INTERTANKO has noted with concern the casualty involving the Italian flag chemical tanker 'IEVOLI SUN' of 7,308 dwt, built 1989, which sank on 31 October some 12 nautical miles north west of Alderney in the Channel Isles.

While the vessel's owners Marnavi S.p.A., Italy, are not members of INTERTANKO, the Association regrets any incident of this nature. INTERTANKO is happy to see that all the seafarers were safely evacuated by the authorities who should be congratulated for their role in such hazardous weather conditions.

The facts related to the cause of the accident are still unknown.  However INTERTANKO is following subsequent reports and urges a full investigation into the cause of the accident to be made public.
