IAPH COMMITTEE AND VTS 2000 SYMPOSIUM

INTERTANKO will be represented at two major events taking place in Singapore during the period 17 - 21 January 2000.

The IAPH (International Association of Ports and Harbors) Committee on Ports Safety, Environment and Marine Operations will meet in Singapore on 17 January 2000 to discuss among other issues:

-: aspects of the introduced environmental impact assessment studies for ports

-: need for developing a port certification scheme

-: experiences from the millennium problem

-: introduction of individual mandatory national ballast water regulations

-: pilotage pre-planning issues

On 18 to 21 January 2000, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the International Association of Marine Aids to navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) will organise a symposium with title VTS 2000 Symposium - The Global Solution. The symposium, which takes place every four years, will be held at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore. The 4-day Symposium will discuss the latest developments on vessel traffic services (VTS) and help chart the new directions for technological advancements, operational effectiveness, training standards and legal considerations in this major area of maritime operations in the next millennium.
