The Risk Minimisation Guidelines have been produced for those who are involved in worldwide offshore shuttle tanker operations. They will also be of benefit to oil companies and regulators with an interest in the shuttle tanker sector.

The Guidelines provide shuttle tanker operators with a reference framework that will assist in the development of appropriate risk reduction and control measures for offshore cargo transfer and associated operations.

In preparing the guidelines, INTERTANKO has encouraged shuttle tanker operators to adopt a goal setting approach to the management of risk. The wide range of prescriptive requirements that are already in place, including IMO, Flag state, local and oil industry specific requirements

, have been taken into account. In particular, INTERTANKO has sought to ensure that the contents of the INTERTANKO document are consistent with the OCIMF publication “Offshore Loading Safety Guidelines”. The publication includes framework guidelines for risk minimisation. Explanatory and helpful text is provided to guide the tanker owner through the process.

The Guidelines are available from the INTERTANKO Oslo office at USD100 per copy for members, USD 200 for non-members.

TO ORDER: e-mail to or visit INTERTANKO’s web page: (under publications).
