NO MORE “GIFTS” DEMANDED AT THE SUEZ CANAL IN THE FUTURE?

We thank one of our members for alerting us to certain incidents of this nature which enabled INTERTANKO to send a direct request to the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) to put an end to this practice.

It is therefore with pleasure we can inform our readers that the SCA has advised us that a circular has been issued to all ships transiting the Suez Canal.  This circular states that Masters should immediately notify the SCA of any violation, and prompt action is being promised.  The SCA has promised to co-operate with INTERTANKO “in solving any problem that the Masters may face”.

The “Announcement” requested Masters to deal only with authorised persons carrying ID cards.  In case of complaint, a report should be sent to: Fax No. +20 64 320 784/5 Attention: Chairman, Suez Canal Authority, or Director, Transit Dept. on Fax No. +20 64 393 833.  The document was signed by the Director of Transit.
