Referring to TSCL No. 220/2000 (April), The Nigerian Maritime Authority (NMA), Director of Maritime Safety Capt. I. N. Ntiaidem, has officially informed agency representatives that the requirement for all tankers to have a Nigerian Certificate of Tanker Compliance has been suspended until further notice. The matter is said to be in the hands of a Nigerian Court who has issued an injuction against this suspension. Our members should consequently check with their Nigerian agent for the latest update on the situation as we cannot disregard the possibility that the requirement may be re-instated once the NMA has clarified the situation with the Directorate of Marine Safety.
