INTERTANKO held a Tanker Chartering Seminar in London on board the historic venue of HQS Wellington, the headquarters of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners on 3 May 2000.

The seminar was well received by the participants, which included representatives from our members and associate members. The seminar featured a number of sessions including: the clauses to negotiate from the P&I perspective; an update on recent US decisions; a series of mock arbitrations, post fixture disputes – the technical perspective; and opportunities in the off-shore industry.

The mock arbitrations covered issues such as: the right of a voyage charterer to require the master of the chartered vessel to issue freight pre-paid bills of lading; and also the right of the master to decide the route to proceed on for a particular voyage. This session invoked lively discussion and debate on the issues involved.

The seminar was concluded with a reception kindly sponsored by Sinclair Roche & Temperley.

We would like to thank all the participants who attended for actively contributing to the sessions which added to the success of the day. In particular we would like to thank our team of speakers: Harvey Williams, Sinclair Roche & Temperley; William Honan, Haight Gardner Holland & Knight; Stephen  Martin, The Steamship Mutual Underwriting Ass. Ltd.; Peter Swift and Charles Cundall, Seascope Shipping Ltd.; and Douglas Sutherland, Associated Petroleum Consultants Ltd.
