“SAFE BOARDING WEEK” 26 -30 JUNE 2000 IN THE PANAMA CANAL

To promote awareness and compliance with the Canal requirements for transiting vessels, a “Safe Boarding Week” will be held during the week 26 through 30 June 2000.

During this period the Panama Canal Commission (PCC) will sponsor organised efforts to emphasize and encourage safe embarkation and disembarkation of all vessels arriving at the Panama Canal from any direction.

Teams representing groups who board vessels frequently (e.g. pilots, deckhands, Canal port captains etc.) will board and inspect vessels at Bilbao or Cristobal utilising a check list.  The Master of an inspected vessel will be given the results. Any vessels with boarding facilities determined to be below standard will be expected to correct any deficiencies prior to Canal transit.

A copy of the “Safe Boarding Week Inspection Check List” can be obtained PortsandTerminals@intertanko.com
