DRASTIC PORT COST INCREASE AT AL BAKR OIL TERMINAL, IRAQ

Based on advice from the Iraq State Co. for Water Transport, Basrah, several of our members report that as from 1 June 2000 the port costs at Al Bakr Oil Terminal, Iraq have increased drastically.

Extract of the “lump sum” port cost in USD based on GT:

Less than  50,000

USD 11,250

180,001 - 190,000

USD 17,580

270,001 - 280,000

USD 21,600

390,001and above

USD 27,000

The complete tariff is available by contacting PortsandTerminals@intertanko.com

The state agency informs that the reason behind the new tariff is to cover maintenance costs for the terminal including the cost of extending the marine services (pilotage, harbour master, mooring/unmooring, etc.) to a foreign company.

INTERTANKO is endeavouring to have the implementation postponed. It is reported, however, operators have already received proforma d/a calculated on the new tariff.

INTERTANKO is also seeking advice from various sources including investigating whether the UN Sanction permits such an increase and the Worldscale Association has been informed.
