INCREASING US OIL PRODUCTS IMPORT

The US imported an average of 2.1 mbd of oil products during the first five months this year, up 7.4% from the same period in 1999.

Crude oil imports were 8.5 mbd in the same period, down 1.7% from 1999. Operable capacity of U.S. refineries was 16.5 mbd, up 1.9% from the same period last year. The American Petroleum Institute (API) estimate that 89.7% of this capacity is utilised, down from 92.3% during January to May last year.

US crude oil production in the period January to May 2000 was 5.9 mbd, down 0.5% from the same period last year.
