ILLEGAL ATTEMPTS TO CHARGE PORT COST AT AL BAKR CONTINUE

The UN Sanctions against Iraq in the ‘Oil-For-Food’ programme are unchanged to INTERTANKO’s knowledge.  Although the Amman-based company ALIA continues to submit pro-forma disbursements to owners intending to call the terminal, this is still illegal according to the UN Sanctions.

No blacklisting of vessels resulting from non-payment of the port cost have been reported to INTERTANKO so far.

INTERTANKO requests its members to submit reports of any irregularities when calling at the Al Bakr Oil Terminal.  Should an actual blacklisting be the result, this should be reported to the INTERTANKO Secretariat immediately.  The UN-system will then be alerted for immediate action and recommendations to the membership.

INTERTANKO will keep its membership advised through our Weekly NEWS regarding any irregularity reports, blacklisting or changes to the Sanctions.
