NEW AFRAMAX REPORT FROM JOHAN G. OLSEN

The report gives details of ownership and employment of 651 tankers and combination carriers of 80-199,999 dwt, 52 of which are for delivery over the next three years. Some 126 of these tankers are owned by oil companies, traders or governments, and 525 by independent owners.  The major oil companies (Exxon, Shell, BP Amoco, Chevron, Texaco, Tokyo Tankers) have a fleet of only 21 Aframaxes plus 11 on charter for 2002 and beyond.  Some 71 of the existing tankers are on time charter for 2002 and beyond, and only 7 of the newbuildings have such contracts. Some 51 of the Aframaxes are listed as being in some sort of pooling arrangement. Teekay is the largest owner listed with 60 ships in this category.
