US OIL POLLUTION FROM TANKERS IN 1999 AT RECORD LOW LEVEL (SOURCE USCG)

The USCG has finally published oil pollution figures for 1999 Pollution from tankers in 1999 is estimated a 8,414 gallons, which is the lowest recorded ever

Previous low was in 1997 at 22,429 gallons. Highest ever was 1979 at 13,077,598 gallons.  Other shipping spilt fifty times as much as tankers in 1999 (409,084 gallons).  Total recorded oil spills in 1999 was 1,172,449 gallons, which means that tankers only represented 0.7%.
