INTERTANKO BECOMES ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE TANKER STRUCTURE CO-OPERATIVE FORUM (TSCF)

We are pleased to announce that INTERTANKO has become an associate member of the Tanker Structure Co-operative Forum (TSCF).

The TSCF Chairman, Henning Poulsson, Managing Director, Red Band, is also an INTERTANKO Council Member.

At the meeting of the TSCF in Tokyo in October last year a total of nine papers were presented covering corrosion in ballast tanks and cargo tanks, design of tankers and experience with double hulls. INTERTANKO has been given recognition following the active participation from the ISTEC Committee (co-ordinated by Bjarne Thygessen and Dragos Rauta) for raising the following issues:

  • tank coating
  • longer period of guarantee for new buildings
  • IACS negative tolerance for steel plate thickness
  • feedback to shipyards/Information to owners during the building stage
  • fatigue analysis

Please click here for a copy of the full report including the outcome and follow up of the issues raised by INTERTANKO. Copies of the papers presented at the Forum are also available.

TSCF (Tanker Safety Co-operative Forum) is a group of 27 companies (7 Class Societies, 4 Oil Majors and 16 tanker operators). TSCF was established in 1983. The primary aim of its members was to share important information and experience related to the structure of their tankers. The second was to develop corrective actions to overcome the problems experienced and to publish guidelines that could assist the all tanker community at large. TSCF has issued in the 1990s 3 important guidelines on ballast tank coating, guidelines for inspection and maintenance and a manual on tanker structure, the latter identifying a number of structural damages and giving methods for repair and for corrections for new buildings.
