INTERTANKO Hellenic Forum held its 9th meeting in Athens this week under the Chairmanship of Mr. Erric Kertsikoff. The meeting was the first introduction for INTERTANKO’s largest membership bloc to INTERTANKO’s new Managing Director, Dr Peter Swift. Some 60 representatives from member companies in Greece and Cyprus met and policy issues around transparency, classification societies, phase-out and condition assessment scheme were discussed in advance of the Council meeting in Sydney on 25 April.  Questions were raised, and the Secretariat was asked to convey significant feedback from the members of the Hellenic Forum on these issues.  The ISTEC Chairman, Dr. Nikos Mikelis reported on ISTEC’s activities over the last six months which included several post-Erika issues of high importance for the membership.

In conjunction with the Hellenic Forum, INTERTANKO also organised a one-day Vetting Seminar with some 70 plus member representatives attending.   Presentations were given by the new SIRE Manager, Mr Geoff Snow, the INTERTANKO Vetting Committee Chairman, Mr. Lars Mossberg and INTERTANKO’s Marine Manager, Capt. Howard Snaith who is the Secretary for the Committee.  The success of the seminar was not only a result of the excellent presentations but the full engagement from the floor. This resulted in a suggestion to form a regional vetting reference group to enable a more effective and timely exchange of information and experience being reported to the Vetting Committee.

Peter Swift and Dragos Rauta together with Erric Kertsikoff also took the opportunity to visit several members in Athens and were received by the Commandant of the Hellenic Coast Guards, Vice Adm. Andreas Syrigos and by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, Mr. George Halvatzoglou.
