NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR TANKERS CARRYING CRUDE OIL AND OIL PRODUCTS FOR NORSK HYDRO ASA ENERGY DIVISION EFFECTIVE FROM 1 JUNE 2001

We have received the following new requirements from Norsk Hydro ASA Energy Division which comes into effect as of 1 June 2001.

QUOTE

The general age limit for tankers is 20 years, with possible extension up to maximum 25 years, when a Condition Assessment Programme (CAP) has been completed with an acceptable rating.

For product tankers of less than 3000 dwt, the existing age limit of maximum 30 years will remain unchanged.  Condition Survey (CS) with a minimum rating of "good" or a CAP with an acceptable rating is required after 20 years of age.

For vessels engaged in the transportation of heavy fuel oil and/or similar grades of cargo, the age limits are as described above.

Fuel oil vessels, however, must be constructed as double hull or double bottom type of vessels, without regard to the size or the dwt-tonnage.

For vessels engaged in the transportation of LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gases) and for all other types of gas carriers the present requirements in force will remain unchanged. Maximum age of 30 years, with an acceptable rating of CS or CAP as described above, from 20 years of age will still be required.

For vessels of type OBO/PROBO/COB/BOC or other types of combination carriers, the acceptable maximum age is 15 years with a possibility for an extension up to 20 years. Acceptable rating of CAP or CS, as described above, is required after 15 years of age.

Vessels affected by the new requirements, and which are still vetting approved, will remain acceptable until the end of their acceptance period, latest until 01 March 2002.

However, we will always reserve our right to, on short notice, reject any vessel for the transportation of our cargoes.
