The European situation and the progress of the Erika I and II packages, ways of achieving greater transparency, and support for a research project to monitor phytoplankton of the sea were some of the issues discussed.

Lars Carlsson conducted his first meeting as Chairman of INTERTANKO in Oslo on Tuesday, 29 May and was particularly happy to welcome Svein Erik Amundsen of Bergesen d.y. ASA and Peter Raes of Euronav to their first meeting as new members of the Executive Committee.

Much of the Executive Committee’s discussion centred on the European situation and the progress of the Erika I and II packages. The Executive Committee members reaffirmed the need for greater transparency and discussed ways of achieving it. Considerable time was also given to discussing the overall objectives, mission and structure of the Association.

The Executive Committee also reappointed the Management Committee for another year, and considered the plans for a Council meeting in Athens in October, and the next AGM in The Netherlands in April 2002.

The meeting took place at the same time as the NorShipping Exhibition and Conference, enabling the members to participate in the many activities surrounding these events.
