USCG UPDATES THE LIST OF TARGETED FLAGS AND CLASSIFICATION SOCIETIES

The USCG has recently updated the list of PSC targeted Flags and Classification Societies as part of its annual evaluation of Port State Control priority Matrix.

The USCG has recently updated the list of PSC targeted Flags and Classification Societies as part of its annual evaluation of Port State Control priority Matrix. Please note that the targeted list of Flag State Administrations for 2001 includes the Flags with higher detention rate than the 3-year overall average rate and associated with more than one detention in 2000. Bolivia and Cambodia are the new countries listed while Thailand, Venezuela and Vanatu have been removed from the list. The full list is available on the USCG web site at http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g%2Dm/psc/miscpages/flagpg.htm .

According to last year’s performances, the Bulgarski Koraben Registar, Croatian Register of Shipping and Indian Register of Shipping are the three top performing Classification Societies. The performance of the Class societies -with more than ten distinct vessel arrivals- is based on the ratio of class-related detentions and the number of distinct vessel arrivals. The ratio is then compared to the 3-year overall average detention ratio, and points assigned in the risk based vessel-targeting matrix. The 2001 List of targeted Classification Societies and the USCG Class Society Filtering Guidelines are also available on the USCG web site at http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g%2Dm/psc/miscpages/classpg.htm.
