Greenpeace activists have apparently called off their protests at a North Sea oil rig but have vowed to continue action against US oil companies to draw attention to President George W. Bush's rejection of the Kyoto climate change pact. Reports suggest that these plans include “activities against the US oil industry before the Bonn summit on Kyoto in July”, when delegates from around the world meet to try to pick up the pieces from last year's failed climate conference in the Hague.

Earlier this month Greenpeace occupied a Norwegian-owned tanker off the French port of Le Havre, temporarily preventing it from delivering an oil cargo from the United States. Similar action was also taken at Mongstad, Norway where Greenpeace boarded another tanker to stop it sailing for the United States.
