HAMBURG TAKES ON GREEN AWARD SCHEME

In the spirit of promoting quality and safety in the shipping industry, the Green Award have taken a major step forward with the addition of Hamburg to their list of Green Award Ports. Europe’s second largest sea port will now be offering a 6% discount on harbour dues to all ships within the Green Award scheme. This will bring Hamburg in line with the 6% premium offered by the Port of Rotterdam, the first Green Award port.

The Green Award scheme has been consistently building on its foundations since its inception some 7 years ago and continues to do so with the philosophy of promoting safety and environmental awareness. This is contrary to the more commonly found penal system used by national and international regulating authorities, which frequently may be seen as failing to add incentive for operating ships above and beyond national and international regulations. As Associate Members, Green Award echo the spirit of INTERTANKO in promoting safe transport and cleaner seas.
