Norway/Kaarstoe – changes to EDP procedures

The early departure procedure (EDP) as implemented at Kaarstoe on 1 November 1999 and withdrawn on 1 March 2001 (see Weekly NEWS No. 10 of 9 March 2001) has in fact not been withdrawn completely. It has now been reported that the terminal reserves the right to use EDP in cases where it is obvious that EDP will save all parties from loss of time from e.g. computer break down, dispute regarding quantity or quality of cargo loaded, etc.

Panama canal – hot work performed on board vessels

The Panama Canal Authority (PCA) recently became aware that hot work was being performed on board a vessel while alongside one of the piers in Canal waters.  The fact that dangerous cargo was found leaking while the welding was in progress is of serious concern to the PCA. In order to ensure safe conditions in the Canal, a written request to perform hot work must be submitted to the canal Port Captain’s office for review and approval.
