Panama/Panama Canal – PCA consults on toll hike

Panama/Panama Canal – PCA consults on toll hike

The Panama Canal Authority (PCA) is considering a toll rise expected to be presented to the Board at the end of this year.  The level of increase is not indicated. However, local sources fear that it may be considerable.  The rise is expected to be enforced at the beginning of 2002. INTERTANKO recommends PCA to indicate officially the level of rise, since this will have great significance especially for operators pre-planning their transits long in advance. In the meantime a tariff increase will be effective from 1 October.  The new tariff for laden and ballast transits is obtained by adding 4% to the existing tariff.

Booked transits remain unchanged.
