BUNKER ALERT - Harmful components in Singapore bunkers

DNVPS have detected potentially harmful components in a number of samples from Singapore bunkerings dated after early October 2001.

These components could not be detected by standard fuel analysis but were found by using in depth test methods.

Some vessels that received these bunkers have experienced serious problems including filter clogging and sticking of high pressure fuel pumps. Further investigations on a number of samples are currently being carried out and more information will be issued as soon as results are available.

In the meantime, if any of your vessels have taken bunkers in Singapore during this period and are experiencing similar problems, please contact DNV so that a further analysis of the samples in question can be made.
