PREVENTING STATIC ELECTRICITY FROM AIR DRIVEN PORTABLE PUMPS

Members should note the need for the bonding of air driven portable pumps in order to prevent static electricity discharges.

CAUTION: 1.7 ELECTRICAL HAZARDS

a. Static Spark: Can cause explosion resulting in severe injury or death. Electrostatic hazard is eliminated by proper grounding of the pump and pumping system. For some applications the A.025, P.025, T1, and A1 graphite-filled pumps will provide a more adequate dispersal of static electricity. Consult local building codes and electrical codes for specific grounding requirements.

The recommended method of bonding such pumps is to use electrical earthing straps from the pump to a suitable point on the ship's structure.
