INTERTANKO, together with Intercargo, were invited as observers at the Annual Meetings of the ISF and ICS held in Oslo last week. They were joined at the latter meeting by representatives of ECSA and BIMCO.

The ISF meeting covered various issues pertaining to industrial relations, the ramifications of existing and emerging IMO and ILO legislation, and STCW95 deadline implications. The agenda for the ICS meeting included many topics of mutual interest for the other international associations including the development of common approaches on oil pollution liability, air pollution, ballast water management, maritime security, and the problems of multiple inspections. There was also considerable discussion about recent initiatives from Classification Societies, Flag State responsibilities, Shipbuilding Capacity surpluses, Piracy, Ship Recycling and proposals for increased tolls for the Panama Canal.
