DIMITRIS LYRAS ADDRESSES THE QUEST FOR MORE TRANSPARENCY

In connection with the Maritime London exhibition at the Baltic Exchange on 3 October, Dimitris N. Lyras, Director, Lyras Shipping, gave a presentation entitled 'Charterers are likely to soon depend on owners being transparent so what hurdles does this still leave for the industry to overcome?'.

In connection with the Maritime London exhibition at the Baltic Exchange on 3 October, Dimitris N. Lyras, Director, Lyras Shipping, addressed the widely discussed issue of transparency of information with a presentation entitled 'Charterers are likely to soon depend on owners being transparent so what hurdles does this still leave for the industry to overcome?'.

Mr Lyras’ presentation sought to identify an underlying solution to this discussion that would fulfil the desire for increased safety and quality while mitigating the impact of the isolated information that the industry is now required to make public. In concluding remarks, Mr Lyras said that if transparency was to improve the quality of vessel operations, it must be scrutinised and judged by experts. To proliferate quickly and practically it must offer a clear benefit to the practitioner, and an advantage over a competitor who does not embrace transparency.
