First twoEnvironmental Awareness Guides for Seafarers

INTERTANKOs first two Environmental Awareness Guides for Seafarers have now been completed. Developed through the Environmental Committee, the Guides focus on explaining the background to the invasive species in ballast water and the concerns with anti-fouling coatings.

These Guides are aimed at increasing awareness of the environmental issues faced by the shipping industry. The Guides explain the problem from its root biological cause, its operational implications and the potential regulatory, technical and operational solutions. They are aimed at those who work on the ships and those who are responsible for carrying out the day-to-day operations and procedures crucial to the safe and environmentally sound running of a ship. Having a basic understanding of the environment promotes a responsible approach to ship board operations and reduces the potential for pollution resulting from a lack of environmental awareness.

A Guide to the Vetting Process, 5th edition – Have you ordered copies for your fleet?

INTERTANKO handles many enquiries for up-to-date information on the different ship inspection systems carried out by oil companies, port state control authorities, insurers, underwriters and other bodies. Such inspections form an essential part of the tanker vetting process.

To overcome the lack of available information on vetting inspection systems, and to assist tanker crews and onshore personnel, INTERTANKO has published an expanded fifth edition of its ‘A Guide to the Vetting Process’. The publication provides a concise yet comprehensive description of the principal tanker vetting systems.

INTERTANKO recommends that a copy of its Vetting Guide be placed onboard each vessel and in shore offices to assist tanker crews and personnel ashore to better understand, and to be better prepared for vetting inspections (discount available for large orders).
