INTERTANKO PUBLICATIONS

A Guide to the Vetting Process, 5th edition – Have you ordered copies for your fleet?

INTERTANKO handles many enquiries for up-to-date information on the different ship inspection systems carried out by oil companies, port state control authorities, insurers, underwriters and other bodies. Such inspections form an essential part of the tanker vetting process.

To overcome the lack of available information on vetting inspection systems, and to assist tanker crews and onshore personnel, INTERTANKO has published an expanded fifth edition of its ‘A Guide to the Vetting Process’. The publication provides a concise yet comprehensive description of the principal tanker vetting systems.

INTERTANKO recommends that a copy of its Vetting Guide be placed onboard each vessel and in shore offices to assist tanker crews and personnel ashore to better understand, and to be better prepared for, vetting inspections (discount available for large orders).

Tanker Specification Awareness Guide now available

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote safer tanker shipping, the INTERTANKO Safety, Technical and Environmental Committee (ISTEC) has produced this Awareness Guide covering the technical specifications of tankers by drawing on members’ knowledge, experience and their willingness to share information for their mutual benefit and for the tanker industry as a whole.

The main aim is to provide assistance in the process of investigating, evaluating and making informed choices, and thus reinforcing final decisions, during the negotiation of a newbuilding contract with a shipyard. The Guide can serve not only as a compendium of other companies’ experiences but also as a checklist of items to follow up and points to further investigate and develop. It is not the intention of this Awareness Guide to rewrite the rules of the classification societies but rather to work within the existing regime to provide the industry with the means of constructing tankers to a higher standard than is currently the common practice.

Lloyd’s List, 29 September: ‘The guide is well written and interesting reading that can be a profitable study for anyone ordering any type of ship, even outside the liquid trades.’

A Guide to Tanker Charters (2001)

‘A Guide to Tanker Charters’ is a successor to the observations (or commentaries) on tanker charterparties that INTERTANKO has published in the past. The book’s author is Harvey Williams, Vice-Chairman of INTERTANKO’s Documentary Committee. This is the third time that the Association has published such material in book format.

This important publication (328 pages) goes well beyond the earlier works as it is the first time a comprehensive approach has been taken to both time and voyage charterparties for tankers. It has become the standard source of reference for those that are regularly involved in fixing tankers or resolving tanker charterparty disputes.
