INTERTANKO steps up presence in China

INTERTANKO is committed to China, both in terms of engaging in a dialogue with the regulators there as well as building up links with the country’s tanker industry. Last week’s Council Meeting in Dubai approved the Association’s first ever full member in China, the independent tanker operator from Qin Huang Dao in North-East China, Hebei Ocean Shipping Company which at present has one VLCC which it took delivery of last month. This is just the beginning of what could be a substantial Chinese independent tanker fleet in years to come.

The Association has had strong support from Cosco’s tanker arm based in Dalian for a number of years. The Council has now approved applications for associate membership from the following other state operated companies: China Shipping (Group) Company, Sinochem Shipping Co. Ltd, and Nanjing Tanker Corporation. We extend a warm welcome to the Association to all these companies.

Members in China and those with representative offices in Shanghai should note that INTERTANKO’s  new Chairman, Mr Stephen Van Dyck will be hosting a reception in Shanghai on 19 May for both members and guests.   Invitations will be shortly be sent out.
