8-9 November, Tripartite meeting, Yokohama

The shipping associations, classification societies and shipbuilders will meet in Yokohama, Japan to discuss newbuilding and repair standards, the roles of and the relationships between the participating parties, the status of the shipbuilding industry.

10 November - Asian Regional Panel - Tokyo

INTERTANKO's Asian Regional Panel will meet on Wednesday, 10 November 2004 at 1100 at K-Line's head office, HibiyaCentralBuilding, Nishi-Shinbashi in Minato-ku, Tokyo. This meeting is open to all INTERTANKO members in Asia and members with an office in the region.

10 November, INTERTANKO Tanker Seminar, Tokyo

INTERTANKO is holding a tanker seminar on Wednesday, 10 November 2004 at 1400 at K-Line's head office in Tokyo. The seminar will be chaired by the Association's Chairman, Mr Stephen Van Dyck. Entitled "The Tanker World Today", it will focus on key political and technical issues and will include some market analysis. All INTERTANKO members, associate members and members of the Japanese Shipowners' Association are welcome to attend.

11 November, Chemical Tanker Committee (CTC) meeting, Singapore

The next meeting of the CTC will take place in Singapore on 11 November 2004, from 0930 to 1600 and will include lunch. More details on the venue will follow.

18 November, Members’ lunch with FFA presentation, London

The next bi-monthly lunch for members will be on Thursday 18th November, 2004 from 12 noon to 14.30. There will be a brief presentation on forward freight agreements by James Tweed of Azimuth Marine Management (see article above).

19 November, Marine Symposium 2004, Chennai

The Chennai branch of the Marine Institute of Engineers (India) is holding its quadrennial international Marine Symposium in Chennai, India at the Royal Meridien Hotel from18 to 20 November 2004.

Head of INTERTANKO’s Marine, Chemical, Ports & Terminals and Environment Directorate, Captain Howard Snaith, will participate in the Ship Inspections and Vetting session, chaired by Captain M.M. Saggi, Nautical Advisor to the Government of India, with a paper entitled ‘The Screening Process’.

1-2 December, INTERTANKO Iberian Peninsular Seminar, Madrid

In addition to providing a forum for the exchange of information and experience, the objectives of this INTERTANKO seminar are to update delegates on recent developments in INTERTANKO’s work programme and to look at crisis response. At a panel session on ‘Emergency Plans and Crisis Communications’ INTERTANKO’s Chairman, Stephen Van Dyck, will address the importance of responding quickly and effectively to an industry incident, ensuring inter alia that the necessary measures are taken to protect the industry’s public image and mitigate damage to its reputation. Nick Brown from MTI Network will in addition advise on how to coordinate and control your response to an incident and establish clear lines of communication with the relevant parties, authorities, media and other responders.

2 December, ITOPF International Seminar on Oil Spill Preparedness, Response and Compensation in association with INTERTANKO, Madrid

Following the INTERTANKO Iberian Peninsular Seminar, the ITOPF seminar in the afternoon, will address various topical issues related to preparing for and responding to accidental spills of oil and other substances from ships, as well as looking at liability and compensation. 7 December, meeting of the INTERTANKO Chemical Tanker Subcommittee (Americas), Houston

The next meeting of the INTERTANKO Chemical Tanker Subcommittee (Americas) (CTSCA) will be held at the Odfjell USA offices in Houston, Texas on 7 December 2004. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Issues to be discussed will include:

  • A dialogue with the Captain of the Port (COTP) Houston
  • MARPOL Annex II - Implementation issues, current cargo classification problems, real impact on industry
  • Rejuvenating the dialogue with the shippers before and after MARPOL Annex II - focusing on US and other Administrations
  • Preparation for a seminar/meeting - June 2005
  • HOGANSAC update
  • Classification and handling of waxes under MARPOL Annex II (Regulations for the control of pollution by noxious liquid substances in bulk)
  • Any other issues the Committee wishes to discuss
