Are voluntary quality initiatives the only sustainable quality initiatives?

The likely impact on the tanker industry of OCIMF's TMSA (Tanker Management Self Assessment) programme for tanker operators; voluntary quality initiatives; some insight into the evolution of the tanker industry with innovative management practices and technology to improve its efficiency and safety in tanker operations; all will be discussed next month during Norshipping in Oslo.

Ian Hunter, director Marine Services, International Marine Transportation, who is responsible for marine quality assesment of all third party vessels used by ExxonMobil and affiliates, will be speaking at a one-day conference organised on 9 June by Tanker Operator magazine. As one of the main architects of TMSA he will talk about the limitations of vetting from ExxonMobil's point of view and its expectations of TMSA. This is a good chance for members to hear about TMSA 'from the horse's mouth'.

The conference speakers have been selected by Dimitris Lyras, of Paralos Maritime Corporation, for their vision about how the tanker industry is evolving. They include Dr. Peter Swift from INTERTANKO; Lars Mossberg from Marinvest; Patrick Slesinger from Wallem; Rajaish Bajpaee from Eurasia; Nikos Mikelis; Bjorn Sodahl; Ulysses Systems; and BMT SeaTech / Teekay.
