Intercargo elects new Chairman at 25th anniversary meeting

Intercargo members voted at this week’s Annual General Meeting to elect a new Chairman. As from today, the new Chairman of Intercargo will be Nicholas Pappadakis from the shipping company AG Pappadakis & Co Ltd. The election formally marks the conclusion of Fred Tsao’s term of office as Chairman of Intercargo.

Pappadakis has played a part in all shipping activities of the Pappadakis family since February 1961. These roles have included commercial, operational, technical, crewing and financial matters in all the Group companies.

Speaking in praise of Mr Tsao’s achievements, Pappadakis highlighted the creation of the Intercargo Direction Paper outlining a strategic direction for a quality industry; the development of the Round Table of international shipping associations; the strengthening of the Round Table’s ability to represent industry issues; the establishing of the Tripartite dialogue involving shipyards, class and owners.

"Much of the industry cohesion we see today would simply have never happened without Fred’s enthusiasm and drive," said Pappadakis. "So much progress has been possible because of the commitment shown by one man". The vote of thanks was led by Giuseppe Bottiglieri who, with John Platsidakis, will be the Intercargo Vice-Chairmen for 2005-2006.

INTERTANKO Managing Director Dr. Peter Swift covered a wide range of topics in his address to the meeting, including the role and activities of the Round Table of international shipping associations, the image of the industry, the need for continuous improvement across links in the chain of responsibility, and the Poseidon Challenge. A copy of his presentation can be viewed on the INTERTANKO website at: http://www.intertanko.com/about/presentations/

Members of Intercargo and the local Greek shipping community assembled at a dinner hosted by members of the Chandris family to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the founding of Intercargo by the late Anthony Chandris. During the celebratory dinner tributes were paid to Fred Tsao for his outstanding leadership over the past seven years as well as to Antony Chandris for his vision in founding INTERCARGO.

INTERTANKO congratulated Pappadakis on his appointment and paid tribute to Fred Tsao as outgoing Chairman for his inspirational leadership, his commitment to cooperation between INTERTANKO and INTERCARGO, and for his support for strengthened partnership arrangements between the Round Table members.
