Regional Manager visits members in Shanghai and Nanjing

This week’s Oil Tanker Forum in Shanghai hosted by Den Norske Veritas (DNV) was well attended by the main tanker operators in China and by INTERTANKO's Regional Manager, John Fawcett-Ellis. The Forum was chaired by Gerry Higgins of DNV, Shanghai, and Bjorn Haugland gave the welcome address. 

The first part of the Forum focused on the Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) programme, with a presentation made by Jan Koren. Fawcett-Ellis then gave a presentation on the tanker industry today focusing on the regulatory environment and current issues. Other sessions focused on the common structural rules for tankers and vetting inspections. 

The Regional Manager then went on to Nanjing and gave a presentation to associate member, Nanjing Tanker Corporation. This focused on the tanker market as well as the political climate facing tanker operators as regards regulations. Discussions focused on the growth in demand for oil imports in China as well as current issues for tanker operators in China
