INTERTANKO meets with Korean ministry

INTERTANKO Chairman Stephen Van Dyck, MD Peter Swift and Executive Committee Member and Chairman of our Asian Regional Panel Dr J H Lee met this week with the Korean Vice Minister Lee Eun in Seoul.

The meeting with the Vice Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries was held in advance of the Tripartite gathering of shipbuilders, shipowners and classification societies, 14-16 September, also in Seoul. Their discussions included a review of the principal issues facing tanker owners, the objectives and success of the Poseidon Challenge, and regional topics of mutual interest.

Both parties stressed the importance of ensuring effective processes at the IMO and the maintenance of international governance structures and compensation regimes for the global shipping industry. Additionally they reaffirmed their respective commitments to working together to achieve our mutual goals of ensuring the safe and secure transportation of oil and chemicals on clean seas.

INTERTANKO also expressed its appreciation for the support that the responsible shipping industry regularly receives from representatives of the government of the Republic of Korea at meetings of the IMO and IOPC, as well as from their maritime representatives in the UK.
