24 October - North American Panel meeting, Houston, Texas

Rear Admiral Brian Salerno, the Director of Inspection and Compliance under the Assistant Commandant for Prevention, has agreed to attend our meeting and provide an overview of the latest developments within the U.S. Coast Guard.

2-3 November - World Shipping (China) Summit, Shenzhen


INTERTANKO is one of the  honorary organisers for the World Shipping (China) Summit 2006, which will be held at the Wuzhou Hotel in Shenzhen, P.R. China, on 2-3 November 2006.


The topic of this year's summit is "Managing Change", with a focus on the changing pattern of world trade and shipping, especially the developments within BRICs - Brazil, Russia, India and China - and their effects on the world shipping industry. INTERTANKO Chairman Stephen Van Dyck will be a principal speaker in the Bulk Shipping session, making a presentation on 'The Evolution of the World Oil Tanker Industry and its Key Challenges'.


The main organisers of this event are COSCO, Drewry, China Maritime and The Journal of Commerce. The summit attracts senior executives from the region and the international community, with a total attendance expected to exceed 600.

15 November - INTERTANKO/INTERCARGO workshop on impact of new EU powers to enforce Competition Rules, London


INTERTANKO and INTERCARGO will hold a half-day workshop for its tanker and bulk carrier owner-members to assess the practical measures which need to be taken in response to the new EU powers to enforce European Competition Rules applicable from 18 October 2006.


The workshop will take place on 15 November 2006 in London. It will explore the background to the new regime, and suggest ways in which owners should begin to plan from both a legal and corporate point of view.

22 November 2006 - INTERTANKO/INTERCARGO joint Technical Seminar, Mumbai


A joint technical seminar will be held in Mumbai on the 22 November 2006. It will be hosted by INTERTANKO and INTERCARGO and is aimed primarily at our joint members and associate members in the region. The venue for this seminar will be The Hotel Renaissance Mumbai.

6 December – ITOPF/INTERTANKO: Tanker Safety & Pollution Prevention Seminar, Dubai


ITOPF and INTERTANKO are jointly organising a Seminar in association with Vela International Marine Limited, Dubai Drydocks, and Gulf Energy Maritime at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, Dubai on Wednesday, 6 December 2006.  The Seminar will address tanker safety issues, highlighting opportunities for preventing pollution from ships, and recommending procedures for dealing with pollution incidents in an effective manner.

Sessions will be chaired by Helmut Sohmen (Chairman, Bergesen Worldwide Group Ltd) and Patrick Decavele (Vice-Chairman INTERTANKO). Speakers include among other: Willem Oosterveen (director, ITOPF); Mohammad Souri (Chairman, NITC); Col. Suleiman Bin Mohammed Al-Busaidy (Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Environment, Oman) and Nigel Carden (Director, UK P&I Club).
