INTERTANKO’s Chairman Stephen Van Dyck inducted in to America’s Cup Hall of Fame

At a lavish ceremony and dinner in New York on 26 October INTERTANKO’s Chairman Stephen Van Dyck saw his name added to a select list of the most illustrious defenders and challengers of the America’s Cup – the America’s Cup Hall of Fame: Roll of Honor. INTERTANKO congratulates him on this recognition of his outstanding achievements, sportsmanship and sailing successes and the award itself, which is one of the most distinguished in the sporting world.

Also inducted was Ben Lexcen and  they thus now sit alongside other legendary names in sailing, such as John Bertrand, Briggs Cunningham, Dennis Conner, Bill Ficker, Arthur Knapp, Edward du Moulin, Nathanael Herreshoff, “Ted” Hood, Sir Thomas Lipton,  T.O.M. Sopwith, Olin Stephens, "Ted" Turner, and Harold and Gertrude Vanderbilt on the Honor List.

In his acceptance speech Van Dyck spoke of the tradition associated with the Cup and  how success was built on a continuous drive for excellence. He drew parallels with INTERTANKO’s Poseidon Challenge – a passion to do the right thing, a requirement to act not just talk, and the perpetual drive for quality.
