INTERTANKO attends FONASBA's Annual Meeting in Marrakech

INTERTANKO attended last week the Annual Meeting of the Federation of National Associations of Shipbrokers and Agents (FONASBA) in Marrakech, Morocco.

In its work to promote the interests of Shipbrokers and Agents, FONASBA has established a work programme which has evident overlaps and synergies with that of INTERTANKO. As these business sectors are also prominently represented in INTERTANKO's associate membership, the Secretary of the Associate Members Committee of INTERTANKO, AMC, has taken on the coordination of FONASBA's Port Tramp Agency Working Group, which reports to the Liner & Port Agency Committee of the Federation.

A prioritised task of this Committee and Working Group is to establish quality criteria for Port Agents which FONASBA will seek to apply worldwide. Through transparent requirements placed on companies and persons performing this type of work, FONASBA hopes to raise the quality of agency work and to achieve a distinction between those that work according to these quality standards and those who do not. It is FONASBA's hope that conformity with this quality standard will improve remuneration to such agents and that substandard agents will gradually disappear. In line with customary practice, INTERTANKO submitted a report on work recently conducted in INTERTANKO on issues relating to FONASBA's activities, including developments in INTERTANKO's Documentary Committee.  Click here to view the report.

FONASBA's commitment to the Poseidon Challenge was on the agenda and a report on this had been supplied within the agenda notes. Click here to view. INTERTANKO also emphasised the value of feedback on Port Reception Facilities from the FONASBA members and expressed hopes that synergies may be found in FONASBA's and INTERTANKO's total information on these matters.
