Conference: Tackling Shipping Emissions – Steering a Cleaner Course

The European Commission has confirmed that it wants the shipping industry to be covered alongside the aviation industry under the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme.

According to a recent study by BP, shipping emissions account for around 5% of total global carbon emissions and this could rise significantly over the next 20 years. Although shipping in terms of efficiency produces less greenhouse gases per tonne-mile than other forms of transport, it is the perception that nothing is being done to address shipping emissions which is driving the political reaction.

If you want to engage with key players, including Dr. Marianne Klingbeil, Head of Unit Clean Air and Transport, DG Environment, European Commission; Dr. Caroline Lucas, MEP, Green Member of the European Parliament for South-East England; Dr. Hans Schlager, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, German Aerospace Center; Dr. Peter Swift, MD of INTERTANKO, then consider attending the conference Tackling Shipping Emissions: Steering a Cleaner Course on 4 October in London.
