The Associate Members Committee (AMC) met in London this week

The main discussion of this week's meeting of INTERTANKO’s Associate Members Committee was on how the AMC can offer its expertise and services to enhance the quality of the Istanbul 2008 Tanker Event.

It was agreed that the next regular AMC meeting should be scheduled for Sunday, 20 April 2008, and that the meeting would be followed by and Open Hour session at the start of the Istanbul Tanker Event. The final decision on the AMC’s involvement in the Tanker Event programme will, to a certain extent, decide which items will become part of the Tanker Event programme and which may be used in the Open Hour Session. It is, however, clear that the Open Hour will contain presentations and leave the floor open to an ad hoc dialogue with associate member delegates.

The current intention is to plan a two-hour session on future scenarios of the tanker industry (2010/2015 and beyond) where the views of various industry stakeholders can be communicated. There was found to be a natural focus on items such as Turkish tanker shipping, the Bosphorus traffic problems and, to some extent, on relevant Black Sea-related Russian issues.

Work is in progress to clarify how an interesting and topical programme can be put together both as part of the main event and as an extra attraction for attending associate members.

The AMC was pleased to welcome Dirk Lindenau, Managing Director of the Lindenau shipyard in Kiel, Germany, to the AMC as a regular delegate representing shipbuilders. AMC is optimistic that Lindenau will bring substantial expertise and benefits to INTERTANKO (AMC/ISTEC) on shipbuilding-related issues.
