INTERTANKO / INTERCARGO – lunchtime presentation – conversion of single-hull tankers to bulk carriers

As part of the regular series of lunchtime presentations held at the offices of INTERTANKO / INTERCARGO in London, we are pleased to invite you to a presentation of significant topical interest: the technical aspects of converting single-hull tankers to bulk carriers. This will be given on Friday, 15 November 2007 at 1200.

Our speaker will be Ulf T. Freudendahl, DNV’s Business Director, Bulk Carriers, who will explain: what constitutes a suitable tanker for the conversion; what is entailed in the shipyard conversion process; and what rules will apply to the finished conversion.

With contracts already signed to convert a number of very large crude carriers to ore carriers in Far Eastern yards at a time when yard space is said to be at a premium, conversion is seen by many as both technically feasible and commercially viable, with a yard visit around nine months seen as preferably to the normal design and build phase for a traditional new building.  But there are technical issues in the conversion process which should be borne in mind, not least of which is the fact that not all VLCCs are deemed suitable for conversion.

As ever, those attending the presentation are cordially invited to ask questions and make any technical or commercial observations to enhance the value of the presentation session.

The schedule will be as follows:

12:00 for 12:15: Arrive at INTERTANKO / INTERCARGO Office (30-33 Minories, London EC3N 1DD) 12:15: Presentation, Questions and Audience observations

13:15: Sandwich lunch and informal networking

14:00: Close

As we anticipate that this will be a popular topic for discussion and analysis, it would be greatly appreciated if you could pre-advise your attendance with adele.garnett@intertanko.com.
