Istanbul Tanker Event 2008 – Exclusive viewing of UK P&I Club video “Gas Matters”

On Monday 21 April, at the end of the INTERTANKO Council meeting, Amir Azizan, INTERTANKO Executive Committee and Member of the Board of the UK P&I Club, will introduce an important new video presentation on gas carrier safety.

The UK P&I Club states: There is a positive connection between gas shipping’s safety record, the public’s confidence and the lack of obstructive regulation. The challenge is to maintain today’s high standards through a period of rapid expansion and change.

Gas carriers have fewer cargo claims than any other ships. High standards of design and build prevent the escape of cargo or the formation of flammable mixtures of gas and air. As exceptionally valuable assets, gas carriers are well maintained.

But the ever-increasing demand for gas requires new suppliers, new ships, new ports of call, new technology and new ways of doing business. Will there be enough skilled and experienced manpower to do all the new jobs properly? How will changes in trades and technology affect owners, masters, deck and engineering officers and crew?

“Gas Matters” is one of a continuing series of loss prevention videos produced by the UK P&I Club – the world’s largest mutual P&I insurer. It presents current best practice across the gas transport voyage to continue the high training standards this industry has created.

“Gas Matters” is relevant to all the key players in the gas shipping industry to help them play their part in maintaining the safety record, the public confidence and the success.

The viewing is open to all registered guests at the Istanbul Tanker Event.
