Tokyo MoU Annual Report 2007 and Summary available

The Tokyo Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Annual Report for 2007 has just been published and includes an overview of the MoU’s activities in the past year, such as the Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on MARPOL Annex I in conjunction with the Paris MoU.

The CIC was undertaken from September 2007 to November 2007 and resulted in an increase in the detention rate to 2.6%, which is a marginal increase over the result of the 2006 Campaign (2% in February to April 2006) but is much lower than the overall detention rate of 5.0% for the same period.

The results of inspections in 2007 show a slight increase in the inspection rate (66% to 67%) and in the detention rate (5.4% to 5.6%) compared to those for 2006.

However, for tankers there has been a decrease in both the inspection rates (11.8% to 11.3%) and the detention rates (7.3% to 6.5%).

The full report is available on the Tokyo MoU website and a Summary of the Report issued by Tokyo MoU is available on the INTERTANKO website (click here to view).
