INTERTANKO's Singapore Crisis Preparedness and Media Awareness Workshop

Singapore, Friday 24 April 2009, 0930 - 1700 hrs

This workshop will be run by Kim Barbero of Carah Worldwide, former Director of Communications at Teekay Shipping in Vancouver, and by Bill Box, INTERTANKO's Communications and Public Relations Manager. This is a follow-up to two successful workshops held late last year in Athens for INTERTANKO’s Mediterranean based members, where local Members spent a day of crisis-media training with expert tuition, and live telephone and on-camera interviews with an active journalist.

Material will include:

-          Principles of media relations and crisis response - why it's important always to be prepared.

-          What is the impact of the media?

-          What makes news and what interests the media?

-          How to prepare for the standard media call.

-          Reputation assessment.

-          The holding statement and the key messages - be prepared, and you will be confident.

-          Crisis scenario with telephone calls, holding statement, live telephone interviews with journalist.

-          Crisis scenario with key messages, Q&A, live interviews on camera with journalist.

-          Discussion of presentations.

Please circulate this advice around your company and ascertain who would be the most suitable person to attend.

The workshop will be kept to a small number of people (10) in order to provide hands-on experience on phone and on camera.

Places are therefore limited.

We will be charging USD 1,300 per person to cover the costs involved in putting on this workshop.

We appreciate that this is a significant cost, but from the enthusiastic reception that this workshop received in Greece last September (for its thoroughness, and for the confidence that it gave participants facing media interviews) we believe that it will be considered money well spent
