INTERTANKO explains Worldscale system at Malmo and Lund Universities

Students at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden, were given a lecture at the end of last week on how the Worldscale system works. The Secretary of INTERTANKO’s Worldscale Committee, Kristian R. Fuglesang, made a presentation in which he outlined the purpose of the Worldscale system and how it works, as well as referring to some issues NOT covered by the Worldscale system (underlining that it is not a panacea) and outlining its historical background.

The students had the opportunity to see an online demonstration of how users can obtain flat rates from the electronic version of the Worldscale schedule and perform some proforma calculations using the electronic version of Worldscale.

Maritime Law students from the nearby University of Lund were also given two lectures by Fuglesang in connection with a boat trip they made the previous evening from Oslo to Copenhagen. These lectures covered an introduction to INTERTANKO, Worldscale and current European Union issues.
