11th Session of the IMO Working Group on the Evaluation of Safety and Pollution Hazards (ESPH 11)

Chaired by Mrs. Marja Tiemens-Idzinga from the Netherlands, the 11th Session of the IMO Working Group on the Evaluation of Safety and Pollution Hazards (ESPH 11) took place this week at the IMO. INTERTANKO’s Chemicals Manager, Margaret Doyle, attended as did delegations from 16 countries (Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Malaysia, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Russia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America) and 5 non-governmental organisations [International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), INTERTANKO, and International Parcel Tankers Association (IPTA)].  

Agenda items discussed included: 

  • The evaluation of cleaning additives, the evaluation of new products
  • Removal of the FFA Content for Vegetable Oils and Animal Fat Submissions
  • Review of the Procedures for Port State Control adopted by the organisations by Resolution A.787(19) and amended by resolution A.882(21)
  • Review of MEPC.2/Circ.10 on Provisional Classification of Liquid Substances Transported in BulkList of Synonyms for Vegetable Oils and Animal Fats
  • Outcome of the most recent session of the GESAMP/EHS Working Group
  • Amendments to MEPC/Circ 265 (Outstanding from BLG 9)
  • Revised IBC Code format
  • Carriage and classification of bio-fuels
