FOSFA adds additional substances to the IBC Code and issues revised lists

We have received a circular (click here to view) from the Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations (FOSFA) listing an additional 18 products that have been entered into the revised Chapter 17 of the IBC Code (International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk) as Pollution Category Y and Ship Type 2, but with a footnote referring to Regulation 4.1.3 of the revised MARPOL Annex II. (Click here for explanations and background information regarding the MARPOL Annex II revisions.)

The circular also contains interesting updates regarding the viscosity of vegetable oils. Methyl acetate has been added to the "FOSFA List of Acceptable Previous Cargoes". Revised "FOSFA Qualifications and Operational Procedures for Ships Engaged in the Carriage of Oils & Fats in Bulk for Edible and Oleo-Chemical Use" as well as a revised "FOSFA List of Acceptable Previous Cargoes" are included.
